JC Area of Studies

Upon satisfying the entry requirements, the students must wisely chose the subjects that they will study in their due course. The students ought to keep in mind which course they wish to pursuit at University level and chose the relevant subjects which satisfy their University degree requirements. Furthermore, students must choose two subjects at Advanced Level, three at Intermediate Level, as well as Systems of Knowledge. Students are required to choose one subject from each of the following Groups 1, 2 and 3 and two other subjects from any of the four groups. The University of Malta holds the right not to offer subjects, or certain combinations of subjects if the number of applications does not justify it.
The areas of study for the Matriculation Certificate Examination are:

Group 1: Arabic, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Latin, Maltese, Russian, Spanish.

Group 2: Accounting, Economics, Geography, History, Marketing, Philosophy, Religious Knowledge, Sociology.
Not more than 2 Accounting, Economics and Marketing may be chosen 

Group 3: Applied Mathematics (Mechanics), Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Pure Mathematics.
+ Environmental Science is only offered at Intermediate level and may not be taken with Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Group 4: Art, Computing ++, Engineering Drawing, Graphical Communication +++, Information Technology +++, Music, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Studies.
++ Computing may not be taken with Information Technology
+++ Engineering Drawing may not be taken with Graphical Communication. Engineering Drawing and Graphical Communication are combined at Intermediate level.

Compulsory Subject: Systems of Knowledge.

Choose wisely because requests for changes in options will not be treated once the academic year is in full swing. Keep in mind that the Junior College is your stepping stone to get a degree and thus read well the Look before you leap to identify which courses suit you.
