The National Youth Parliament
Tuesday, 10 November 2009 21:17

The National Youth Council (KNZ) is going to organize another edition of the National Youth Parliament. Normally the National Youth Parliament is held every September and has for the last 6 years been an annual KNZ event.

Last Septembers’ session of the National Youth Parliament saw all seven resolutions presented being approved. The resolutions tackled various subjects from Environment; to Education; Transport and Infrastructure; and Illegal Immigration during the morning session which was for the participants aged between 13 and 16 years. In the other session which was for participants over 17 years old, the topics discussed were Social Security, the Right to life, and Creativity and Innovation.

Following last September’s large number of participants, another edition is going to be held in March, thus giving the opportunity for us students to speak about topics of relevant importance in the modern day society. The edition of March will have a different format from the previous September. Instead of two sessions, there will be just one session which will discuss three themes instead of seven.

The three themes of discussion in which the parties will be divided are: Social Benefits; Maltese Culture and Identity; and the other one discussing Means of Communication.

The National Youth Parliament is a great experience from which you’ll learn how the highest organ of the Maltese Legislation works, how to debate, put forward your ideas, and bridge different ideas together.  Apart from that you’ll meet new friends, especially during activities such as live-in’s organized purposedly for participants to get to know each other.

Further information can be obtained from the KNZ website which is www.knz.org.mt, or from the website of the National Youth Parliament – www.nyp2009.org, where online applications can also be found. Applications must be submitted by not later than Wednesday 18th November.
